Now Peru

This world terrifies me—sometimes.

It strikes me down

And mortifies me to death,

And I am buried,

Suffocated,

Drawn

To outer limits

From which I see

The whole fantasy

Called life,

Called humanity,

Called existence.

I am caught on a downbeat

Of clubs and knives–

Life forfeited

Stone flutes broken.

For what?

We are endless barbarians

Cruel

Testing tolerance,

And yet, we endure

To see another seabird fly.

High above the horizon

It too swoops down

To meet its prey.
