A golden heart

Looks upon the hourglass

of human frailties.

As the sands slip by,

“What is left

of our humanity,” she asks?

From heaven,

she sings a siren song.

“There is treasure

sunken away

from all–

gold Bullions,

a Cross,

the Broach

of a Fair Maiden

in Cameo

(curled hair,

exposed bosom),

coins in Islamic.

A sword lies

near the unlocked

and barnacled chest–

sunk near a ship

set out to sea,

but swallowed

by the currents,

after losing course,

eluding pursuants

in a battle

no one won.

What is stolen

possesses the possessor

and leads him

to walk his own plank

What is given

by the heart

Received or Unreceived

is taken to eternity.”
