THE SEA WAS BRAZEN

The sea was brazen, and
My ship was hesitant.
Pirates Roamed the waters.
Nights one saw lights flashing
Across the water in signals.
Days one saw killer whales,
which seemed to wink to me
with no intent to harm. We
were not of those whose
bloodline they salivated for.
The night the looters neared
and broached the ladder’s bars,
The wink of an eye rose up
from the cold water below, and
the signals stopped forever.

***If you want to see the beautiful picture that inspired this poem go to my FB Power of Metaphor page and you will see the poem with the picture.  I could not figure out if the picture was public domain or not, so I do not put it up here.  I wouldn’t have known who to credit. Where on FB everyone passes posts from one person to the next, I don’t feel comfortable doing that on my own site.  Anyways, my Power of Metaphor FB page is full of wonderful stuff. It is worth a peek. Hope you are enjoying the evening.
